At Our Lady of the Rosary Primary, exposure to and involvement in a range of sporting activities is seen as vital in a holistic education.
Sport at our school is about participation, teamwork, healthy lifestyle choices, skill development and, above all, fun.
All children are encouraged to become involved at a level with which they feel comfortable, and to extend this involvement to realise the potential harboured within each individual. Those children who exhibit particular talents in sport have access to representative sports at a number of levels, from school through to national.
Specific PE sessions, coordinated by the PE team, are scheduled on a weekly basis as part of the PDHPE Key Learning Area. These sessions are supplemented across the grades by activities such as gross motor programs, class and grade sport sessions, and occasional training clinics run by external agencies. The children may also elect to participate in a weekly after-school sports program – Motiv8.
School carnivals are organised in the following:
- Swimming – Years 3 to 6 (with provision for able Year 2 children to compete)
- Cross Country – separate Infants and Primary events
- Athletics - separate Infants and Primary events
Currently, children have the opportunity to participate in the following gala day events, competing against teams from other schools:
- Oztag (Touch Football)
In addition to the sports above, children who are competing at a high standard are able to trial for diocesan teams in a range of sporting disciplines. These teams may vary annually and trialling opportunities will be advertised early in the school year.
